Circular Economy and Waste Management Expert
We are looking for an experienced Circular Economy and Waste Management Expert to support the development, implementation, and delivery of sustainability services related to circular economy, waste reduction, recycling, resource efficiency, and responsible waste management. This role requires strong technical knowledge, practical project management skills, and the ability to translate regulatory and market requirements into actionable solutions for clients.
The ideal candidate will support clients to improve waste prevention, segregation, collection, recovery, recycling, and reporting systems across different sectors, including plastics, packaging, consumer goods, manufacturing, retail, agriculture, textile, food, and other relevant value chains.
The role will also support business development for circular economy services, including audits, assessments, training, advisory projects, and verification or certification-related activities. A strong understanding of environmental regulations, Extended Producer Responsibility, waste streams, recycling systems, and the Testing, Inspection & Certification (TIC) industry is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Execution
- Establish project workflows, processes, and documentation systems for circular economy and waste management projects.
- Design and manage projects from concept, proposal, and scoping through to implementation, monitoring, and completion.
- Develop project scopes, budgets, timelines, methodologies, and resource plans aligned with client, regulatory, and sustainability objectives.
- Conduct waste audits, material flow assessments, circularity gap analyses, and baseline studies to identify improvement opportunities.
- Provide technical guidance on waste reduction, segregation, collection systems, material recovery, recycling, reuse, repair, refurbishment, and circular business models.
- Support clients in understanding and implementing Extended Producer Responsibility, plastic packaging recovery, traceability, reporting, and third-party verification requirements.
- Ensure alignment with applicable local regulations, international standards, client requirements, and accreditation or scheme requirements.
- Identify and resolve technical, operational, and stakeholder-related project challenges with practical and commercially viable solutions.
- Deliver training and capacity-building sessions for clients, producer responsibility organizations, waste management partners, local stakeholders, and internal teams.
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, industry associations, recyclers, waste collectors, clients, and technical partners.
- Support the development of marketing and sales strategies to grow circular economy, waste management, and sustainability services.
- Identify potential opportunities for tenders, contracts, partnerships, advisory services, audits, training, and certification-related projects.
Monitoring, Reporting & Compliance
- Supervise data collection, monitoring, verification, and evaluation of project outcomes, including waste diversion, recovery, recycling, and resource efficiency indicators.
- Prepare technical reports, audit summaries, impact assessments, circularity assessments, client updates, and regulatory or scheme-related documentation.
- Ensure high-quality and timely delivery of project deliverables, with appropriate evidence, traceability, and quality control.
- Monitor developments in circular economy policy, waste management regulations, EPR requirements, plastic packaging standards, and relevant sustainability frameworks.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Lead and coordinate cross-functional teams, including auditors, inspectors, consultants, technical specialists, field coordinators, and external partners.
- Coordinate efforts across regions and business units to ensure consistent delivery of circular economy, waste management, and sustainability services.
Other Responsibilities
- Perform business to the highest standards of ethics.
- Performs other related duties as may be assigned in relation to circular economy, waste management, sustainability, auditing, advisory, and project management activities.
Requirements
Educational Background & Working Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, sustainability, waste management, industrial engineering, chemistry, materials science or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in circular economy, waste management, recycling, environmental compliance, sustainability consulting, or related project management roles, preferably within the TIC industry or environmental services sector.
- Proven experience with waste audits, material flow analysis, recycling systems, plastic packaging, EPR programs, sustainability reporting, or environmental management systems.
- Strong knowledge of circular economy principles, waste hierarchy, resource efficiency, recycling technologies, responsible sourcing, and sustainable consumption and production.
- Familiarity with Philippine environmental regulations, including solid waste management and Extended Producer Responsibility requirements, is an advantage.
- Experience with relevant standards, schemes, audits, verification, certification, or assurance services is an advantage.
- Proficient in English, both spoken and written.
- Strong computer skills, particularly with MS Office tools; experience with data analysis, reporting dashboards, GIS, LCA tools, or waste management software is an advantage.
- Excellent leadership, stakeholder engagement, facilitation, and team coordination abilities.
- Strong skills in project budgeting, planning, field coordination, technical writing, and client reporting.
